Signs That Heat Pump Need Replacement

A heat pump is a piece of equipment that allows heat transfer from the source to the destination. In fact, sometimes the destination to which the heat is transferred is known as heat sink. It needs to be mentioned here that heat pumps are mechanical devices. Hence, it is natural that these units will malfunction at some point of time or the other. When your heat pumps starts malfunctioning you will either have to replace the unit or repair it as per requirement. But the question is how you will understand as in when the heat pump needs to be replaced. There are certain signs that will tell you that your heat pump needs replacement.

Occasional breakdown of an HVAC unit is quite normal but when the frequency of these breakdowns increase and you need to call in HVAC technician quite often, at least a number of times in a year then you must know for sure that it is time for you to replace your old heat pump and opt for a new heat pump. This is because it might so happen that the repair cost of the heat pumps might become as high as the cost of a new heat pump. Thus, it is better to opt for a new heat pump.

Another obvious sign that your heat pump needs replacement is when you have high energy bills consistently. However, you must find out whether the cause of high electricity bills is your heat pump or any other device. In case, there is no other device that contributes to your high energy bills it is better that you think of replacing your heat pump.

Inconsistent heating and cooling could be another factor that may call for heat pump replacement. If you observe that some rooms in your home are consistently too cold or too hot, then it is certain that something is wrong with the replacement. The same rule is applicable for relative humidity which means if you find certain rooms too dry or too moist the reason could be your malfunctioning heat pump. However, that does not mean you will have to replace your heat pump immediately rather, even after checks and parts replacement if the same problem persists then it is a better idea to opt for heat pump replacement.

Certain amount of noise is quite common from a heat pump but when you start getting loud noises from a heat pump, it means that the parts have started to wear down. Before taking any decision you will have to check all the parts of the heat pump and try to trace the root cause of the noise. In fact, even the duct work needs to be checked for the noise source. If the sound stays on even after replacing certain parts of the heat pump, you must think of replacement.

Last but not the least, age of your heat pump is an important factor. Generally, a heat pump has a life span of 10 to 15 years. So, if the age of the heat pump is more than 15 years you need to think of replacement.
